JEHOVAH JIREH!

My Provider

JEHOVAH JIREH!

I’m so tired of feeling stressed about money!   Worrying about how I’m going to pay all the bills.  What if the electricity gets cut-off?  It’s happened before, more than once.  The bills never seem to end.

Years of worrying, years of praying, more like begging God to fix the money problem, thinking constantly about the unpaid or overdue bills.

Once again, I’m facing the eleventh hour on paying my mortgage, paying my utilities, paying for gas, and food.  Once again facing the humiliation of knowing I wrote a bad check to my son’s orthodontist, trying to figure out how to make everything come out all right.  So that we can survive another financial crisis, fearing that this time may be the time that I can’t fix it.

I’m determined to try something different.

Rather than focusing on the money issue, I’m focusing on Jehovah Jireh! I heard a sermon on how one of God’s Hebrew names is ‘Jehovah Jireh’, meaning Provider.

I’m not a Hebrew scholar, but I wanted to know more about the name Jehovah Jireh.  I learned that the name Jehovah Jireh is based on a story from Genesis, the first book in the Bible.  The story is about a father name Abraham, and his son named Isaac.  They lived around 2000 BC.  God told Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, literally!  Having a hard time understanding how Abraham could think that God had asked him to sacrifice his son, I dug a little deeper.  I found out that it was common religious practice during Abraham’s time, for sacrifices to be made to appease the gods of his day.  A human child, sacrificed in the name of religion, wasn’t out of place during Abraham’s time.

Even if the idea of sacrificing a child wasn’t ‘abnormal’ during Abraham’s time, Isaac’s birth was a miracle from God, so why would God want Abraham to cut Isaac’s life short?

The reason why I say Isaac’s birth was a miracle is because in an earlier chapter in Genesis, God had promised Abraham he’d be a father, after Abraham’s wife was too old to have a child.   In fact, when Abraham told Sarah they were going to have a baby, the Bible story tells us she laughed at him.

I can’t help but think that Abraham had to wonder if he’d ‘misunderstood’ God’s message.  If he did doubt, I’m sure it only made his faith that much more sure, when Sarah gave birth to Isaac.

In my own life, God often waits until the eleventh hour, when I know there is absolutely nothing I can do to fix, or solve, my own problem.  He takes me to the end of my own efforts, often.  He’s patient.

But now Abraham believed God had told him to sacrifice Isaac.  I couldn’t find anywhere in the Bible where it says how old Isaac was at the time Abraham set out to sacrifice him.  We do know Sarah gave birth to Isaac when she was 90 years old. (Genesis 17:17).  She died at age 127, when Isaac was 37 years old. (Genesis 23:1)  So Isaac was probably around 20, based on what I can figure out.  I guess it doesn’t really matter, but I was curious.

Back to the story, Abraham obeyed.  He trusted God would, and could bring Isaac back from the dead. Before you turn green, no, Abraham didn’t actually sacrifice Isaac, although, he was ready to, before God stopped him.  You’re probably wondering what this story has to do with ‘Jehovah Jireh’.  God delivered Isaac, and Abraham, by providing a lamb for the sacrifice.  Abraham did not sacrifice his only son, although he proved his willingness to do whatever God told him to do.  And once again, God showed Himself to be different from the gods being worshiped by the other people of the day.

Our God is a mighty God, different from any other, and He is our Provider.

When we tell others about our God, our lives need to show His power, His protection, His provision!  That doesn’t mean that we won’t have struggles.  God tells us we willI’m still in the midst of a major financial struggle, as I write this.BUT I do not believe it is God’s desire for any of us to consistently worry about paying for the roof over our heads, or stress over how we are going to feed our children.  God says that He will meet our needs.  Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread. (Psalm 37:25)

With Abraham and Isaac’s story fresh on my mind, the Hebrew name ‘Jehovah Jireh’, takes on a whole different meaning.

I’m trying something new.  For each worry about money, bills, cut-off notices, late payments, I’m chasing the worry right out of my mind, with a shout, JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH! JEHOVAH JIREH!

As Christians, I just don’t believe we can expect to draw others, to follow our faith, if we’re consumed with worry, and struggling to survive.  God wants to show His power in our lives.  He wants people to look at us, and say “I want to worship their God.”  So let’s choose to believe that God will be our Provider, no matter what our circumstances are showing us. Then maybe we can stand with Abraham with a new confidence in our Lord, our Savior, our Provider!   We need to show how God is different from any other!

Yes, I’m worried, but I know that God is faithful, and how much more sure will my faith in Him be, when once and for all, I can say all my needs are met, according to His riches in glory!

Speak the Word over your finances, giving God the avenue to move on your behalf. The Word will change your circumstances and bring you peace. I know from experience what it is like to worry about money. Even before reading your hub, my thoughts were on my own finances, but I remind myself again and again that I'm speaking the Word and He has never failed me yet. Even though my heart wants to fear and doubt, I refuse to give in to it. I trust the Word.

Align your tongue with the Word. We don't have to beg God. We don't have to hope He will. He will. Faith in His Word will cause Him to move on your behalf. But we have to open our mouths and say what He says. Our Father owns all the cattle on a thousand hills. He is not in any financial struggle and because we are his and joint heirs with our big brother, Jesus, we have every need met. Just agree and you will see. Don't change your tune when things get worse or don't come right away. Keep on speaking the Word and you will learn how we overcome.

Hi Mary,

The Bible helps to see how we can manage, the best example Christ Jesus gave is written in;

- Matthew 6:24-34.

- Luke 12:22-31.

The 'key' is the Kingdom.

As we get to learn more and appreciate that JEHOVAH GOD'S Kingdom will once again entirely rule over the whole earth, all we can do now is to preach and teach others about this excellent prospect.

Picture yourself living in the new earth, 'Paradise'.

- 2 Peter 3:13.

Our problems of today will not be, and bad things no longer remembered. No more sadness. No dying. No paying rent / mortgage. Work will be satisfying to the full. Animals will once agin be at peace with humans. People will cause no harm to each other or the animals or the earth.

- Isaiah 65:17

JEHOVAH GOD by means of His Kingdom will bring about an end to imperfect human rulers. - Daniel 2:44.

JEHOVAH GOD will always be our GOD forever, no false gods.

- Deuteronomy 5:7.

So we, just as Lord Jesus did, put the Kingdom first, we help others the same way as Lord Jesus did.

Matthew 28:18-20.

I too hope and pray many people will draw close and taste and see that JEHOVAH GOD is 'Good' and near to people.

- James 4:8. / Psalm 34:8. / 1 Peter 5:7. / Acts 17:27.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. - Matthew 6:33.

I like what you said, "Rather than focusing on the money issue, I’m focusing on Jehovah Jireh!" Your daring determination to do something different is a faithful step in the right direction. Even though you don't know where this will all lead, you choose to obey and follow God, the Object of your faith.

Isn't it encouraging to know that when we step out in faith, we're in good company? “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going” (Heb. 11:8).

Someone once said, "You can't climb a smooth mountain." The road up to Mount Moriah was rough, but Abraham was determined to obey God's command to sacrifice his son every step of the way. By faith, he came out of that blessed experience with firsthand knowledge of what Jehovah Jireh meant to him.

When you reach your mountaintop destination, and you certainly will, no doubt you too will discover what Jehovah Jireh will personally mean to you. As the disciples were determined to followed Jesus everywhere he went, they discovered who he truly was through a series of divine epiphanies. These revelations can only strengthen our faith as the mountains get steeper and the road ahead gets rougher. Fear not, for God's perfect love casts out fear. He will provide.

This was a very thought-provoking hub. It allowed me to process my own real-world faith journey as well. Today, we share a common financial mountain that only be scaled by faith. It is my prayer that this momentary economic difficulty we face together, will stretch our faith and deepen our intimacy with God.

I love this. The word of God is life and it covers us and protects us. It is alive and active. As other's have commented, you should pray God's word over every situation and He is excited and waiting to fulfill His promises to us.

Thank you for the encouraging words of inspiration. God is sooooo good!

This hub, sharing your heart, is such a powerful ministry to so many in financial crisis all over the Country, even the world. I'm going to keep that "miracle" journal to remind me how our Lord Provides!! He has done it again and again in my life, and though I'm willing, though my flesh fears at times, and as I wonder when that "edge of the cliff" might come ~ He will swoop down and save us! His ways are not our ways, and He speaks peace to the storm. What a testimony you have and will yet have!! I pray His richest blessings upon you, and all of us!!

You are a Great writer! I was so drawn in. I do know that God says while we are focusing on him, he will take care of our troubles. While it always seems to be at the last minute i think it's because we have come to our wits end so we are now ready to turn it over to God and thats when he comes thru for us. I think our worries and fears keep God at a distance. God Bless you sister and Keep the Faith going!

I have found that thanking God in the midst of the issue is uplifting, and encourages God to teach us and to move on our behalf. The difficult part is, I have to thank God for the actual problem! Not so easy sometimes.

I know that most of us go through "faith attacks" especially in the area of finances. Just like an asthma attack, we must take the remedy before the attack. That is the Word of faith spoken out of our mouths. We must remind our human mind and spirits who GOD is. He is indeed Jehovah Jireh our provider of everything and in Him there is no lack whatsoever.

The other thing is to war spiritually for what He has released to us and close every door to the enemy so he has no claim to our inheritance. Doubt is sometimes a door he enters through. Fear and self sufficiency are others.

Thanks again for sharing and I stand in agreement with you that your Queen of Sheba has arrived with what you stand in need of.

Abraham BELIEVED God, and it was counted to him for rightousness. Believing God is the Truth that sets us free. When we study Gods Word and believe Him, we are well on our way to a life of joy and peace. God has promised us provision, protection, peace and many other blessings which combined, offer us a wonderful life. I'm glad to see you are on the path. God Bless you. Enjoyed your hub and have become a fan.

I understand where you are. I am there also. I always check myself first to see if I am not walking in faith. Then I begin to stand on faith.

I promise, the enemy will come and shoot his fiery dart to bring doubt that God Exist, depression making you believe he does not care and that you must have done something wrong. Here is a reminder "Nothing can separate you from the Love of God". I have been through it more than once like a dummy. But, I promise that if you stand on his word and believe what is written that "No Weapon Formed Against will Prosper" and That All HIS promises are Yes and Amen.

Then it will come to pass.

God knew I needed a job and He also knew that I needed it before November. God Knew that if I did not have a job I would loose my home and me and my kids would have been homeless. But, in the Last Hour HE comes through. He came through for me and I know that He is no respecter of persons so I know that he will be there for you.

Also Remember that When we are in the Valley This is where you Grow in Christ. KEEP THE FAITH!!!

God Bless you and I will be praying for you because we need the body to come together and pray for each other.

The most definite thank you Jesus, is to proclaim his existance "Jehova Jireh" the Lord my provider.

Your experience is pretty much the same as mine consistanly relying on the Grace of God, and giving him all the praise, which inturn pleases God, yes lifting him up pleases God and as we lift him up he lifts us up, and removes our fears, and builds our confidence in him and not the world.

Blessings to you

I appreciate the message, I have met many in situations like these. The problem is when confronted with circumstances of such nature its hard to put something positive to life a downtrodden soul. The eyes cannot focus, the mind is wondering and the heart beats just that little bit louder, yet the message is clear. Christians must understand we dont always find or experience God in our strength, but in our weaknesses. Thanks for ministering to lives faced daily with the heat of the fire, JEHOVAH JIREH -He is my provider.

Thank you form an inspiring hub based on pure faith. Like you I face monetary circumstances; and I wrote two hubs Above The Clouds.Like those who commented mentioned, we have to continually speak the Word of God and act on it. before we call, God answers; and while we are still speaking , He hears. Faith is the key; and Jehovah Jireh is Provider.Praise Him!

I like that story of Abraham sacrificing Isaac. It teaches us that God wants us to give up all cares to Him and trust Him as He is the PROVIDER of our every need. We may not understand fully why we are going through difficult things in our lives, just like Abraham's issue of having to sacrifice his only son Isasc. But if we trust Him, He will prove to us that He is indeed Jehovah Jireh. Thanks for sharing your real life experience to encourage the faith of many like-struggling Christians. God bless you!

You know, it might be that God was proving Abraham's faith, when asking him to sacrifice Isaac. In other words, Abraham needed to know where his own faith stood with God. And it seems you are finding out as well, where your faith stands with God.

There is such liberation and exhileration when we KNOW our faith can withstand what comes against us, especially in the matters of provision. I can see your faith and it is beautiful!

Dear Mary. I love your hearfelt hub. You write from your heart. It is beautiful writing. Keep at it. You have beautiful faith Mary.

I can relate sister. Many, many are in a financial struggle I am one of them. I do not know where rent is coming from and my car payment bounced. I can relate. I am at peace. Imagine that. When I started to tithe 7 months ago,my life in finances started to turn around. I promised God every dime he would get a penny. I always gave but I always shorted God. I would use excuses like I gave my friend $50. That does count in Gods world but the tenth to the church you here the word is first place 1/10 It is for our benefit.

My hubsband has had no work for 5 months. My job is 1/3 the salary. God has provided the rent each month and the car payments. If I must go or loose my car he has a better plan. We filed BK in 2002. It was not the end of the world,

it opened up a new world for us. The World will let us down no matter. Not that bouncing a check is good but our savior forgives. Forgive yourself. Trust in him. Well that is my story for now. If you read my hub 'redeemer' it speaks of money issues in allot more detail and how God pulled me to my feet.

Be at Peace sister. The Devil lies to you, he is a liar. You are rich in him. He is your provision. Hugs

With Love

Great message and very timely!! Especially coming upon the Holiday Season, of course He is the "Reason" for the Season.....many still get very caught up in the materialistic aspect of Christmas and forget what the message of "Hope" it brings, the message of our Savior! As we enter into this holiday season we need to all be more aware of Jehovah Jireh, our Provider and not get overwhelmed with ((Stuff)) so much to the point of losing the true meaning of Christmas.

I am now a fan!

On timing Mary, I always think of the children of Israel leaving Egypt. God did not part the Red Sea the day before they got to it or when they were five miles or three or even a mile away. He waited until they got to the water's edge; they acknowledged their helplessness and therefore dependence upon Him. It was then that He parted the Red Sea.

He will meet each need as it becomes due. Each need and provision thereof will enrich your life and your testimony will bless more people than you can imagine.

All glory to God!

Good blog. It's good to accept worry, but not give up on hope. "I can’t help but think that Abraham had to wonder if he'd misunderstood God’s message" - yeah. Faith requires the courage to believe that God can make true his promises in the end. But no one said it would be easy.

Thanks a lot for this great write.

Mary, Just think of that moment when Mary heard Jesus say her name. His Sheep know His Voice. Yes many many times God will seem like He is not there we wait and nothing happens or sometimes we will jump ahead of Him only to find out that He was there all along. Yes Jesus He is our Counselor, He is our Advocate. We come to God in His Name which is above every name. For He is Worthy. God Bless You
